Our Mission
Focusing on the potential for peace and environmental harmony on our planet by carrying out climbs, runs or walks, each one a pilgrimage to watch for the Earth; bringing together heart messages from thousands of people, making a difference both at an individual and a collective level; and raising funds for the building of much needed schools for under-privileged children in Tibet.
Climb for Tibet so far
- On the 6th July 1998 the Climb For Tibet team climbed Chimborazo (6310 metres) in Ecuador, the highest mountain in the world measured from the center of the Earth. Over 1000 peace messages which came from celebrities, politicians, children and other members of the community both here in the U.K. and from all over the world, were spoken out from the mountain. Other climbs were carried out in support.
- On the 1st January 2000 a team of 8 people climbed to the point on Earth nearest the sun. Due to the tilt of the Earth, this was the highest point on latitude 20 degrees 40 minutes south - Mount Aucanquilcha, 6176 metres in Chile. This was declared the sacred mountain for Earth Peace day 1/1/2000. Over 2000 peace messages were spoken out from the mountain. Then, with the messages transcribed onto biodegradable rice paper, they were scattered on to the winds in true Tibetan style. Again other climbs were carried out in support.
- Three successful lectures have been given at the Royal Geographical Society in London to around 500 people on each occasion. Many other smaller lectures have been given around the country.
- During the summer of 2001 a Peace Pilgrimage was undertaken by members of the team visiting Tibet, Nepal and India. Over 3000 peace messages were spoken out in Tibet. Brief details noted in News 13
- Tess Burrows has written a book about her personal experiences of our first climb. This was first launched at Haslemere Hall in Surrey in December 2001 and again at the Royal Geographical Society in London at our WORLD PEACE EVENING on Sept. 11th 2002. Please visit our shop pages and order a book online.
- Joined with "Run For Tibet" in September 2002, on a 14 mile cross-country run in the Weymouth area to promote our cause.
- On the 6th July 2003 a team of 5 people ran and climbed to the summit of Mauna Kea, on Hawaii's Big Island, the tallest mountain in the world measured from it's base on the ocean floor. Over 800 peace messages were spoken out from the mountain.
- Upwards of 80 peace messages were spoken out from the C.N. Tower in Toronto, the world's tallest building at 553 metres (1815 feet). The Peace Messages had been collected here principally during the Kalachakra for World Peace gathering, blessed by the presence and teachings of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
- Completed the Camino de Santiago de Compostella, 550 miles in 28 days in May 2005. Peace messages were spoken out from Finisterra on the Atlantic coast.
- Took part in the 2006 Polar Challenge and spoke peace messages out from the 1996 position of the Magnetic North Pole
